Dublin, Ireland June 7, 2005

Our next stop was Dublin.  Because we have a small boat, we were able to dock "right downtown" (actually about 6 blocks from the center of town).  We got the usual city tour, and a lecture about James Joyce, then we were on our own.  We chose to rewalk the area we'd seen from the bus so I could capture pictures of them better than I could have from the bus.

Downtown Dublin is mostly Georgian Homes, but rather than self-standing homes, they are these row palaces all in brick.  Our guide was very upset that some places are tearing these down and inserting modern buildings.  Personally, looking at these rows of brick, I could replace them (they have no elevators, no internet wiring, ...) with the drop of a hat.

I went the wrong way again, so we took the diagonal through St. Stephen's park.  It's only one city block square, but it's a beautiful escape from the rest of Dublin.  This picture doesn't show it, but it also has lots of people in it and lots of activities going on as well.
There must have been some interesting competition going on "back then" in Dublin.  There are two cathedrals that are only 4 blocks apart, and they are both Anglican.  On the left you see St. Patrick's, on the right you see Christ Church.
Inside of Christ Church (we didn't get inside St. Patrick's), the lines are very clean, and of course, the stained glass is excellent.
