  Total Commander Related Files

Total Commander (formerly known as Windows Commander) is an Orthodox File Manager (OFM) for MS Windows platforms developed by Mr. Christian Ghisler from Switzerland. It's a software application for managing your files and it resembles much of the structure and layout of the well known file manager Norton Commander from the MS-DOS era.

Total Commander though, incorporates many advanced features, high stability and compatibility, high performance, flexible functionality and high configurability. It also encapsulates the functionality of other types of applications that are tightly related to file managing, like for example, FTP, archive handling, file viewing and editing, file synchronization, file comparing and much more without the need of having various applications installed on your system.

Apart from the built-in state-of-the-art functionality, you can further expand TC's powers by using plug-in tools of four different types that include viewing, packing, file system tasks and file content attributing. Some more abilities included in the long feature list are: a multi-renaming tool, thumbnail and tree viewing, tabbed file panels, custom columns, file splitting and combining, command line support, directory hotlist and history list handling, a parallel port connection and many more features of a specialized nature that make the difference and sets TC the leader among its competitors. The official site can be reached at www.ghisler.com

This site includes some files to aid you in maximizing your productivity by further configuring Total Commander. You will also find some documentations and some other files of various nature the discription of which you'll find below. It's part of my contribution to this software engineering marvel that is called Total Commander. Enjoy!

Can be located under View -> new subsection: Column Sorting and are the following:
  cm_SrcSortByCol1=6001; Sort by first tab
  cm_SrcSortByCol2=6002; Sort by second tab
  cm_SrcSortByCol3=6003; (source window)

  cm_TrgSortByCol6=6106;
  cm_TrgSortByCol7=6107;
- Remark: Some <Alt> shortcuts (the "&" character) have not been applied due to running out of remaining
available letters. The following direct shortcuts have been assigned:
  CA+A=cm_CopyFileDetailsToClip
  A+F6=cm_RenameSingleFile
  A+S=cm_SelectCurrentPath
  C+I=cm_SwitchIgnoreList
  A+T=cm_SwitchSeparateTree
- Edit also displays Shift+F4
- Moved "User Menu" to the right-hand side.
- Some small name corrections and expansions to descriptions. Latter applies for keyboard shortcuts as well.
- Reordering of some commands.

  • TCExtMenuFr.zip

    A French version based on an earlier stage of my menus. Thanks Ben Hub for the translation!

  • TCExtMenu_DEUTSCH.zip

    A German version of my menu file (for v6.50 or newer). Credit goes to Dieter Rehfeld. Thanks!

Note: The above non-English menus are based on my menu but may be updated individually without my notification so I just don't have the means for keeping them up-to-date. Sorry!

I have taken the time to create a text file which includes the full TC changelog history to the best of our knowledge. Reasons for having such a file can be many. From purely emotional and historical to having some development details not documented within the help file of TC which can help you understand some features better or help you master "hidden" secrets of some features.

We are lucky to have missing extensive changelog details down to minimum. On the other hand there are 3-4 inconsistencies either based on typos (dates and/or version numbers), or based purely on human errors while gathering up all the necessary information.

You will also find a couple or so historical references throughout the development period of TC (and WC).
Feel free to post here any errors you might have located or additional information so than I can have the file updated. Thanks!

New: You will find now two files within this archive, a continuation of the old one and an additional file which is comment-free.

An MS Word document I took the time to write concerning the Directory HotList feature of TC.

A selection of my must-have INI settings for both TC INI files, in a text file.

A collection of all “frequently asked questions” from TCs official site as a convenient off-line reference in pdf and doc format. Thanks Christian for the permission to duplicate the info.
