Dear Mavis,
Your card came today, glad you are well. We are well and very busy trying to get the work done. It rained last night for the first in a long time. Dulcie and I pulled some peanuts after she came home. It didn't rain enough to make them pull good. We have 13 more rows yet. So many stay in the ground but they are good, more matured than the first ones I picked off. My tomatoes are ripening and am selling several bushels a week. Have gathered a lot and put them upstairs. Worms have damaged so many and the dry weather has cut them short. My beans are bearing. Sold some to Aunt Missouri. Hope the frost doesn't come so soon. I found a large watermelon in the patch this evening, as large as any we had all summer. Haven't cut it yet.
Dulcie went with Roy and Alma out to the Temple tonight to hear J. Harold Smith who is beginning an eight weeks meeting. We heard him Sunday night. He can say more words in a minute than any one else can in ten. He doesn't mince words, he dares to say what others only think. The Temple was nearly full Sunday night. A great number of people went up for prayer. He is 30 years old, weighs about 200 pounds and looks like Mr. Stone Sherril.
Am glad your group continues to increase. Manlius Stirewalt joined the Church Sunday and they had their children baptized. Bill Hartsell got married Saturday night. Also Arthur Morris. Mr. Towell's are going to move the last of this week.
Howard and Ruth came over Saturday night and we had an oyster stew. They came for Church Sunday. Buren hasn't been over this week. Had a letter from Aunt Lole. She said she had written you.
I hired Laura to go with me to make the mattress. Annie Sapp had Ruby, Billie, Wade, Walter and Mrs. Misenheimer. They finished theirs right after dinner so they helped us. It was Ruby's birthday and we all put our dinners together and had a big time. Mrs. Pliss made one the same day. We are all entitled to another one in the next allotment.
I am going to send you the pictures in this letter. Muriel and children were out Sunday. A letter which I suppose contained your check came last week and I sent it to you. Have you received it?
Lawyer Williams was buried today. Papa went to the funeral. You know he was a republican. Dulcie has come from preaching. She said there was a large crowd.
Lovingly,
Mother
