Sunday night

May 30, 1948

Dear Mavis,

Your letter arrived yesterday. I wonder if it is wet down there as it has been here for the past several days. We had such a hard rain Thrusday. I had just set out a row of sweet potatoe plants, a row of cabbage plants and some late tomatoes. I haven't been able to get into the field or garden since it rained again yesterday.

I went to a Stanley brush party at Herman Misenheimer's last night. Went with Pearson and Annie. There were not so many there on account of the rain. We had a nice time. We had an invitation yesterday to Annie Lee Cline's wedding to take place the 13th of June on Sunday afternoon at five oclock in Mt. Olivet M.E. Church. Walter Smith Poplin is the groom to be. I don't know whether he is a brother of Billie Marie's husband or not.

Aunt Lole sent me a 10x14 picture of Donald's two boys, Billie and Jimmie. They are very handsome and have the most lovable and captivating smile I have ever seen. I just have to smile every time I look at them. Billie looks like Donald did at his age. Jimmie looks like Aunt Lole and also a little like Johnnie Turner. Several of his teeth were out and the photographer told him to close his lips. He is smiling with his mouth closed which gives his face a radient expression.

Buren and family were here a little while this evening. Victoria is still having headaches. The doctor says he can't find anything wrong with her. She hoped she would be better after having her tonsils removed.

Howard was at Sunday School and they were afraid to bring Ronnie. He was not so well. He was stung four times last week be bees and had a temperature a day and night supposedly from the bee stings.

Pop has a cold, but is working. He hasn't hoed any of his cotton yet. He harrowed it once. Am afraid it is going to get grassy. Do you have as many acres planted in cotton as you had last year? Have they finished chopping? Hope all are well.

Love,

Mother
