In this letter it sounds like they were cutting lumber for the Mt. Carmel church - jlt

Dear Mavis,
Your letter arrived yesterday. It was a quick reply to mine. It was cool here last night, rained some and was cold enough for Fall dresses today. It is warmer tonight. There was a good crowd at the church yesterday to cut and haul logs. Pop and Harding worked until dinner. Harding had planned to go on a trip to Florida with Henry Hamel. They left at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon in Henry's car. Buck and a good many others worked yesterday afternoon. Doug was so interested that he wanted to go back and help, so he went with Buck. They hauled so many logs to the saw mill and there is not room for any more until Mr. Barnhart saws some. He will not be home from the beach until the last of this week, so may not saw until next week. We were expecting to set next Saturday as another day to finish cutting the ltimber but had to postpone it. It is turning out twice as many logs as some of them thought, not any more than I thought it would for I know just a little bit about timber. I told them it would turn out a lot of fine lumber. Reece said it wouldn't amount to much, the little we would get from there. But he sees differently now. I suppose I am the happiest one about the cutting of the timber, because I have prayed and talked about a newe church since the beginning of the year. It seemed a one person fight for a new church for no one believed it could be done. Often it seemed hopeless but I couldn't give up. I just kept praying and trying to show the people how wonderful it would be to have a part in building a church.
Muriel took Doug to the doctor this afternoon. He had a dizzy spell while eating dinner and had a spell last week. The doctor said he had a low blood count. He gave him some medicine and told him to eat a lot. He is going to stay in town several days. Buck and Dulcie and I went out to the creamery and got some ice cream this afternoon. We went by to see Doug. He was feeling better.
Dulcie gave me a Toni permanent yesterday. It turned out nicely. Harding said he would be back Wednesday. He put the asbestos covering on the kitchen floor last week. I washed the kitchen walls and took out the lineoleum. It looks nice now.
Love to Johnnie and Joe Lee.
