Dear Mavis,
Your letter came yesterday. We had rain last week too and several cool days. It has been warm today. Howard, Ruth and Ronnie were here for dinner; also Mac, Muriel, Jo and Douglas and Harding. Kent and Muriel went after Jo this morning. She was glad to get away from the hospital. I don't think she will be strong enough to go to school for a week.
Buren and family were over this evening. Jewell is carried away with school. Buren bought a Laundry Mat washing machine last week Buck installed it for him. Victoria said she was afraid to start it in the morning when she washes. I suppose she will soon get use to it.
Dulcie and Buck were here this evening. Dulcie drove to Charlotte yesterday. A girlfriend went with her. She bought herself a pair of green shoes.
Aunt Annie Sapp had a supper Friday night, October 1st which was Ruby's birthday and since mine was recently she invited me to share the honors. Maury and Hattie, Ruby and Marilu, Annie and myself were the only ones there. She had a delicious supper - the best steak from her freezer locker, green beans, green peas, rice, gravy, candied yarms, persimmon pudding, hot biscuits, ice cream. Maury made the ice cream. I took a fresh cocoanut cake. Ruby came after me and brought me back. I don't do much cooking when Harding isn't here. I do like to cook on my new stove and I enjoy the hot water. Our electric bill for the past month was $8.25 and Pop doesn't enjoy that. The electric power company has increased our rates to take effect the 15th of this month, so it will be higher still.
I am going to order a small cook stove from Sears as soon as they get them in stock. They had a nice white porcelain one for $35.75 a month ago but I wasn't ready to buy it then and when I went to order it they were out. I can use it to heat the kitchen and cook and bake on it when it is cold. Am going to order a portable oil heater from Sears to heat the bathroom.
When are you expecting to go to the hospital?
Lots of love to Johnnie and Joe Lee,
Mother
