Dear Mavis,

We received your letter and card. So glad to hear from you and to know you were able to write and the babies were doing alright. I hope that they are good and get started right. If they sleep a lot they will not be much more trouble than just one which cries all the time. I tried to think of names for them but none seemed to fit a boy and girl. I knew you liked Cheryl but thought you were going to call it Cheryl May, so I thought Donald Ray would go with that.. However I think Cheryl Jane is a pretty name and Timothy Jan is OK.

I suppose you would like to stay at the hospital as long as possible, so the nurses can care for the babies. If you could have a room just for you and the babies and not let anyone handle them while they are so young and if you had nothing else to do but care for them, I think under such conditions twins would be wonderful. Write and tell us what you need for them.

Victoria brought Carolyn and Wayne over to stay with me while she went to Charlotte to see the doctor. The docotr said he couldn't find anything wrong with her except she didn't have enough blood. She suffers with headaches all the time. He told her to continue the liver shots. We are having mild weather and Mrs. Stirewalt is nearly over the cotton again. We will get another bale. I had a letter from Elwyn this week. I had written him about the twins. He said he called Ruby L. and told her. Vernon is working in Washington and is staying with Ruby. He and Ruby were to see Elwyn last Saturday night. Elwyn didn't mention Vernon's wife so she must not be with him. He has been in Washington since last December.

Today is Jewell's birthday. It won't be long until Johnnie's. I heard Dewey speak over the radio last night. It was a fine speech and I hope he is elected. He is so different now from four years ago. A much finer man. There was not an unkind word or any bitterness in his speech toward any of the opposing candidates. "The Charlotte Observer" and "The Charlotte News" have come out for Dewey. I see in the paper that the editor of the Greenville, Mississippi paper is for Dewey.

I hope this finds you improving and Jan and Jane growing. I feel sorry for Joe Lee, I know it hurts him to be away from you.

Love to Johnnie and Joe Lee,

Mother

I thought you would like to read Harding's letter.
