Dear Mavis,

Your letter received. I thought I would write the first of the week so you would receive it this week, but of course it can't reach you now. We are all very well. Muriel is working and Jo is going to school. Howard and Ruth were here last night. Buren's were here tonight. Jerry was his same sweet self. Buren is going to trade cars this week. He is getting a new one, a Ford I suppose. He has a new suit and Victoria has a new outfit. They are all set for Houston's [Penninger - jlt] wedding to Connie Sloop which takes place at Luther's Chapel near China Grove at eleven o'clock Easter Sunday. They are to have dinner at her home, after which they leave for Asheville on their honeymoon. Buren and Victoria and the Penningers are invited to the dinner.

I suppose Dulcie told you how it poured down rain for the banquet. [high school graduation - jlt]. I was sure her dress would be ruined but it wasn't hurt and looks almost as if it hadn't been worn.

Harding had a large picture of himself made in oil. It is good. He looks like a movie actor, Robert Taylor I believe. Victoria said it wasn't as good looking as he is, which is certainly a complement.

I am hoping you get work in North Carolina next year. Don't worry about work, it wouldn't hurt you to rest up for a while, but I know you won't be without a job if you want one.

Does Mr. Turner own a farm? If he doesn't perhaps he would like to farm in North Carolina. You know we are confronted with the problem of too much land and nobody to work it.

Don't let what others say influence you. Use your own judgment. Life is short and a chance for happiness comes only once to some. Tomorrow is Douglas's birthday. We'll celebrate it Sunday. Send us a picture of Mr. Turner.

Lots of love,

Mother

Dulcie went to the banquet with Roy Christy and Alma Johnston. They drove to Charlotte in all that rain after the banquet.
