Dear Mavis,

I kept waiting to hear from you last week before writing you and I didn't get your card until Saturday.

We had a lovely day for our wedding anniversary. We came home from church and ate a sandwich dinner and all went to Boone's Cave. Howard and Ruth and Muriel's. Mac had never been there so he was the one who wanted to go. We all enjoyed it. Ruth, Harding, Mac, Dulcie and Jo pulled off their shoes and waded in the river.

Houston's wedding [Houston Penninger, Victoria's brother - JLT] came off on schedule and I suppose they all had a nice time. They said Jerry behaved nicely and when it was over he said "Lets go". Jerry's nurse was not coming back this week. She said her father and mother needed her to help on the farm and she felt like she owed it to them to help because there was no one else. It has been as warm as summer for the past week. We planted potatoes, corn and garden last week.

Buren just stopped in a few minutes. Jerry looked so sweet. Houston's wife's sister is staying with Jerry this week, but is not going to stay any longer. They have advertised for a girl.

Easter was nice. Everybody was well. Howard and Ruth went to Pinehurst. Muriel and Mac went back home about 2 o'clock as Harding was going early. The children stayed until Tuesday morning. I only colored 6 dozen eggs. I sold 12 dozen to Rev. Brooks for hatching. Sunday evening after we came home from Boone's Cave, I fried 1 1/2 dozen for supper.

It is getting very dry here. A shower would help so much. It is cloudy tonight, perhaps it will rain, though it it cooler than it has been. We have a club meeting tomorrow. I haven't heard from Elwyn. We sent him some eggs, ham and home-made candy and peanuts for Easter. I thought he surely would write and say he received it. Papa sent Delores a dollar for her birthday and we sent a box of peanuts just afterward and have not heard a word from them. I just don't see how anyone could be quite so negligent about writing.

Ruby Suther was home last week. Mr Suther is still at hospital but is able to walk a little by himself.

Love,

Mother
