Saturday afternoon

Dear Ruel,

Again you letters doubled up and I received two in one day.  I went to the mailbox yesterday and the mail carrier said he didn't think I deserved a letter when I had gotten so many the day before.  Guess he didn't know I had such a good letter answerer at the other end of the line.

I'm glad you and Ray got together at last.  I really believe he is more excited over the wedding than you are - when you both get together it is just too exciting for words I suppose.  I think dark suits of blue will be best.  I'm going to ask Howard and Harding to usher.  Howard has a blue suit - not navy but dark enough, and Harding will have to borrow one.  I hope Ray does not have to go to the expense of buying a new one.

The 22nd is going to be all right I think.  People are still saying they wished we would have it on Saturday night or Sunday night so they could come, but after all it is our wedding.  I think the crowd will be big enough to suit me on Monday night.

I'm glad your cotton is turning out well.  It will get picked fast with 100 pickers in the field.  It is a good thing your crop is going to be good - a new car, a new house, and a new wife are all extra expenses you know.  All the talk about rising prices is not very encouraging either.  Someone here also reminded me that the gas limitation went into effect September 1.  I do hope you can get here and we can get back to Mississippi.

I think Olive Branch will be a fine place for Ruthel.  She will have all the advantages of living near a big city and she and Zora can be together too. I have a good friend in the church there - Mrs. Maurice Woodson - tell Ruthel to remember me to her.  I guess the schools will be starting soon.  Dulcie starts next Friday.

Muriel said this morning that she bet you wouldn't know me if you saw me now - she said she thought I looked rested and looked as if I had gained several pounds.  I can't tell much difference but I surely don't do much.  I can't afford to gain any though for the wedding dress is almost too tight as it is.

The Home Demonstration Club has a picnic supper tonight and we are getting ready to go.  I'll mail this when I go to town for Muriel and Mack.

Lots of love,

Mavis
