Tuesday morning

Dear Ruel,

Just 25 more days after today.  I hope you have more to occupy your mind than counting days.  One of these days I'll realize just how short time can be.

We had a fine trip Sunday.  The trip to Brevard was not all I had hoped, for none of the teachers I knew were there.  The school seems small compared to the way it looked when I went there as a freshman seven years ago.  Having seen a little more of this big world since then accounts for that I guess.  All goes to show that we can't go backward but we must always go forward.  We ate our lunch on a huge rock on the side of the mountain.  Food really tasted good.

Dulcie started to school Friday and Jo and Douglas start tomorrow.  I will be a little lonesome at home with all of them gone, but there is usually plenty to do there.  Dulcie can't make up her mind what to take.  I think school has lost some of its appeal to her.  She never did like to study like I did (that's not bragging).

Howard said he got his marriage license the same day he applied for it.  He said his examination consisted of a blood test, examination of heart and lungs and blood pressure.  You can go ahead and have this within two weeks before the 27th.  I think the doctor I consulted was trying to make an extra dollar.

I hope I hear from you today.  The mail carriers had a holiday here yesterday.

Lots of love,

Mavis
