Saturday afternoon

Dear Mavis

I am thinking now as I write this how much faster my pulse will be beating just two weeks from this afternoon. Can you imagine the time is so near? It will be the beginning of a new chapter in our lives and may it be a happy and pleasant one. I am sure there are times in all our lives when we feel as you felt last week.

I know you wonder what I am doing with all my time, and sometimes I wonder myself. I have plenty to do between now and Saturday week. The first thing I must do is get that new automobile I have no one here to remind me about the house plan and I have just about forgotten them until you return to Miss. I guess you sometimes wonder just what kind of a husband you are getting. Maybe you are just what I need to keep me going or encourage me anyway.

There was a funny little incident happened yesterday afternoon. I was all dressed up going to Cleveland and Alexander the negro that works here at the house told the Stubbs boys I was going courting. They run home to tell all their family that they were going to Sunday School Sunday for "Ruel was going after Miss Shinn". James, one of the boys will not go to church for he does not like Miss Brown and they cannot make him go. He says he is going when you come back. It is time for me to start to Vicksburg so I will air mail this letter in Cleveland.

Lots of love,

Ruel
