Thursday morning
[may 6, 1943-jlt]
Dear Mavis,
I was late in going by for the mail this morning, although I was expecting a letter. I am sorry Johnnie was sick, but he surely must be getting along all right or you would have sent a wire or something. It would be very hard to explain how I would feel if he was very sick with so many miles apart.
You must hurry and get you some clothes and that hair fixed for I want you to look good for you know they don't get to see you very often. I expect after Ruth and Dulcie go through with what you have been through they will have a little "bulge" on them.
You may not believe it, but you have a "model husband". He has not been to a show or anywhere else since you have been gone. There is not a show on this month that I care about seeing.
It is still dry and warm here on Dry Bayou. We sure do need a rain. Cotton is just about all up to a stand. Am trying to get the beans planted this week.
Carried the hogs to Cleveland yesterday morning but didn't stay for the sale.
We have not heard from Hiram or Evelyn yet. Ruthel and Mary Emma still send Mama a little letter as usual.
It has been a short week this afternoon since I saw you and Johnnie, but it seems much longer with no one here but me and Mama. I stop and close my eyes and think if the past two years was a dream, it was a very pleasant one. It takes separation to make you see little things like that I guess.
I hope Johnnie stays well and you can enjoy your visit for the time goes by so fast. Write every day for I can't help but look for a letter.
Love,
Ruel
