Monday noon

[May 10, 1943]

Dear Mavis and Johnnie:

Received a card and letter this morning and am glad you are better.  I feel about like I did some of the mornings in the spring of 1941.  Wonder if you remember it? Alexander said yesterday afternoon, "The Boss going out sporting". I did go to Sunday School and Miss Glenn preached.  I think she preached all right.  She preached on the responsibility of Mothers.  The Jenkins and Putman woman went up to be prayed for and I think the Jenkins woman joined the church.

You guessed wrong for I didn't go to see "Yankee Doodle Dandy".  The one picture, "Iceland" is the only one.  The "Boss" paid off Saturday afternoon and didn't go to town Saturday night. We had a fish for supper and as usual the three Musketeers were here to eat it all.  I only ate two pieces.  I started then to write you and Johnnie a letter but couldn't get in the mood to write.

We had a shower here Saturday night about 9 O'clock.  It was enough to do some good.  It is still cloudy here and maybe the rain is not over.  I plowed the garden this morning.  It looks all right since the little rain.

I had to round them all up this morning to start chopping.  I told them I was going to be "hard to get along with" until they were through.  I guess it was a good thing you were not here to hear me fuss this morning.

The Hospital patient doesn't seem to be any better [Snip the dog].  I doubt if he gets well.

If I go by town anytime this afternoon I will stop by and get the gift and see what it is.

You wouldn't be interested in my trip yesterday afternoon and last night so I will close. Tell little John his Dad has not forgoten him.

Love to you both, Ruel
