Monday night
Dear Ruel,
Johnnie is lying here kicking and playing. He has seemed his normal self most of the day. I left him with Mama this afternoon and went to town. He was asleep when we left at two o'clock and had just woke up at five when we came back. He has been having a big time since then. Evelyn and Quintine came for awhile late this afternoon. They were telling about their trip to Washington and seeing Stewart and Glady's baby. Stewart doesn't know if he is to go to the army yet. They say "Sonny" kicks and eats just like Johnnie. I think they are all surprised that Johnnie is as large as he is. They were judging from what I had written that we had such a time getting him started.
It is quiet here tonight. Nobody but Papa, Mama, the baby and I. We listened to the Lux Theater "The Lady has Plans" and now "Casablanca" is on. They have such a good radio that it is lots easier to listen than to ours. It seems funny at home without a crowd here.
I saw very few people in town that I knew. Mr. McGee was teasing me about spending some of that Mississippi money at Penney's. He was telling one of the clerks about the way we made money in the Delta. I think I should have asked him why he didn't stay in Mississippi.
I don't have much to write tonight. I stopped writing at the first paragraph to put Johnnie to sleep. He is sound asleep now - doesn't seem to mind sleeping in the bed. Shall I kiss him for you?
Love,
Mavis
