Tuesday noon
Dear Mavis,
Received the letter that you wrote Sunday Morning and I am proud that you have left the hospital, but you must be careful and not get out of the bed too soon. I expect Little Johnnie is glad that his mama has come home again.
We had a big mess of beans for dinner today, and Mama said for me to tell you we would have squash for dinner tomorrow. Wonder if that makes you homesick? The garden seems to be standing the wet weather better than anything else, for it certainly looks good. We didn't work but one day in the field last week and none so far this week.
I suppose I need someone to help me make up my mind about coming after you and Johnnie. If the board will not give me enough gas coupons to make the trip I can get enough A tickets anyway. What must I do about it?
Where do you suppose I found our ration book number 1? It was in my green jacket in the closet. I had looked every place that I could think of, but my clothes. I went through all my suits and then I thought of the jackets and there they were. I was getting worried about them.
There is nothing happening here that is worth mentioning, so I will make it short today.
Love,
Ruel
