Dear Mother,

We are having a spell of rainy weather as it started Saturday night and is still raining.  I'm drying diapers on a line stretched across the dining room.  The supply just barely keeps ahead of the demand!  It is most too warm to keep a fire and yet the air so damp that we almost need one.  The children all have colds but are up playing.  Jane has been standing alone a lot lately but hasn't attempted the first step yet.  Ruel hurt his arm on a nail out at the barn and had to have a tetanus shot.  He picked up a plank to hit a hog and a nail in the plank scrapped his wrist.  It must have hit a nerve for he can hardly move his arm.

Johnnie got 96 on spelling this past week.  The first week he go 25, the next week 35, so we were right proud of the good grade.  He really has a good teacher this year.

I went to Rosedale Saturday afternoon and did a little shopping.  Got me a black hat with a feather at the Rosedale Style Shop.  I found a cap for Jan and Jane.  If you or Pop want to get them something, they could use some overalls.  The caps are a dark blue (which won't show dirt).  Jan's cap reminds me of the little maroon one Pop sent Johnnie when he was little.  I got them a size 12 months overall.  The ones I got open in the crotch, but I would just as soon have the other kind.  Their sweaters Dulcie and Buck gave them last year just fit them now so they won't need much more.

I must stop for now as Ruel is waiting to carry the letter and Jane is  crying.

Love,

Mavis
